Starting Thursday, registration for the CrossFit Games Open begins. This is the fifth year CrossFit has held the Open as a way of selecting which athletes and teams advance to Regionals and from there, to the CrossFit Games. But more importantly, the Open allows everyone to participate. It doesn’t matter if you are brand new to CrossFit or that you cannot do a handstand push-up, the Open is for you! Yes, there are going to be WODs programmed that will be frustrating but there are also going to be times where you do something you didn’t think possible.
As we get closer to the start of the Open on February 25th, you will hear the coaches talk about signing up more and more. Just to be clear, we don’t make money on the Open, we aren’t incentivized or obligated by CrossFit in any way to participate. We host the Open workouts and encourage our members to participate because the Open is so much more than five workouts. Every year we see people get their first double unders, pull ups, muscle ups, etc. We see people push themselves a little more than they might normally during class. More importantly, the Open is about community. We get to come together and watch the WOD announcements every Thursday night with bated breath. Saturdays become a time to cheer for those competing and get to know each other a little better. And of course, we will finish off the last weekend of the Open with a celebratory BBQ pot-luck!
